Who was the main writer of the Declaration of Independence?

In May 1775, the Second Continental Congress convened in Philadelphia to draft a Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. Thomas Jefferson, who was perceived to have a "masterly pen" was asked to draft the initial version of the document.
