What are the duties of the Supreme Court?

When the Supreme Court agrees to hear a case its sole intention is to examine and clarify a point of law not to adjudicate individual or collective guilt or innocence in a criminal case. The Court decides if a law or government action violates the Constitution, Judicial review enables the court to invalidate both federal and state laws when they conflict with the Constitution.
