Which president was elected only after a legal battle that went to the Supreme Court?

In the 2000 election between Al Gore and George W. Bush, the results from forty-nine states failed to produce the 270 electorial votes needed for either candidate to declare victory. The last remaining state, Florida's popular vote was so close that Al Gore demanded a recount. Ultimately, the Supreme Court ruled a statewide recount unconstitutional and Bush was declared the winner.
